Wine tasting and star gazing in the Arizona desert with friends.

Beautifully blended wines

I took a little road trip adventure in February 2022 with my wonderful friends, Lisa and Rex, who live full time in Chandler, Arizona which is just outside of Phoenix. They picked me up from the airport and loaded me into their beautiful Tiffin motorhome for a wine tasting adventure. About 4 hours south, or roughly 170 miles we arrived to Elgin, Arizona.

We camped at a harvest host site at Sonoita Vineyards. Harvest host are free park camping sites at wineries, or host sites, for one night. The sites are free as long as you patronize the host site.

Wine in the desert. The weather was a little out of the ordinary for the visit. In fact it was in the 20° degree temperatures! But we managed to make the best of it. The Vineyard where we stayed at actually hosted a stargazing event with mulled wine and an astronomer with a high powered telescope. It was amazing.

The Vineyard set up campfire rings throughout their front parking lot area which allowed visitors to meet and greet each other around the fire. We took turns visiting the telescope with an astronomer assisting and providing details of the view.

I give the whole experience at five out of five.

The next morning we started our wine tasting adventure at five different locations. Each one offered a unique experience and everyone was extremely friendly.

I think my favorite winery was the twisted union wine company. They had the best wines that I’ve tasted outside of Oregon. Almost all of their wines are a Blend. The winery also hosted a beautiful wine tasting room which actually is a bed-and-breakfast with two available rooms to rent for accommodation above the wine tasting room.

I loved it so much…I became a member of this winery. The marketing and the graphics for their wine labels was wonderful as well as the wine and the customer service.

Brett, the wine vintner, was our wine tasting server. This made it extra special since he explained what he was thinking and trying to do with each batch of wine. A very fun visit to Elgin, AZ.
